Blue Ribbon School Award Ceremonies
On March 9, 2009, Western and the other Blue Ribbon School Award winners were honored in Annapolis. A group of Western students, parents, and teachers, accompanied by CEO Andrew Alonso and several school board members, represented Western High School at the banquet, where principal Eleanor Matthews received a citation and medal from Lt. Governor Anthony Brown and State Superintendant of Education Nancy Grasmick.
Following the banquet Mrs. Matthews and the other principals were honored on the floors of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, each of which passed resolutions of commendation for the Blue Ribbon schools.
